About Us

Thorncliffe Crematorium in Cumbria, also known as Barrow Crematorium, was opened in 1962, and sees around 900 cremations take place every year.

Open to both religious or non-religious services, cremation funerals at Barrow Crematorium can take place over a 45-minute time slot. An extended service time can be requested for free. Families can make use of the organist to perform their choice of funeral music or can arrange their own singers and musicians to perform. They may also bring funeral music to play on a CD. Either the entire service can be held at the crematorium or a short committal can be held at the crematorium following a longer service at a church or alternate place of worship.

The entire cremation will take about 3 hours, following which the family are handed the cremated remains. The ashes can be interred in a grassed or gravel cremation plot or in a family grave. Alternatively, the ashes can be scattered in the glades of remembrance or taken away by the family for a private burial or scattering.

A number of memorial options are available to commemorate the life of your loved one. These include a headstone, grave or kerbstone for cremation plots, purchase or donation of a tree in the glades, an entry into the Book of Remembrance, memorial seats and a bronze plaque for the memorial wall surrounding the glades.
