Guide to Funeral Directors in Nottingham

The city of Nottingham is home to around 320,000 people, with over 700,000 living in the wider urban area and suburbs. There are 47 funeral directors with 56 funeral homes located across the city, serving bereaved families and individuals within the city limits and the surrounding areas.

If you are looking for specific religious or cultural funeral services, the diverse population of Nottingham means that many funeral directors will be equipped to meet your needs.

An estimated 93 countries and 101 languages are represented by the city’s residents, and while 44% of the population identify as Christian, there are also 32 mosques, playing host to the 30,000 Muslims who call Nottingham home. The city also has a high proportion of Sikhs and Hindus.

Nottingham is also a notably secular city, with 34% of its residents identifying as having no religion. Funeral directors may therefore be experienced in providing non-religious or Humanist services.

Nottingham City Council is responsible for the management of six active cemeteries. Of these, three are only available to those who have already bought a burial plot: Church Cemetery, General Cemetery and Basford Cemetery. Highwood, Northern and Southern Cemeteries still have plots available for purchase, and Southern Cemetery also has an on-site crematorium.

Mark Collishaw at A.W. Lymn Carlton was excellent from start to finish in helping me to arrange my sister's funeral. He is so professional and came up with some good ideas when I was struggling to decide what to do with certain things. Mark is very personable and nothing is too much trouble for him. He even hand stuck 450+ diamantes to my sister's coffin and helped me come up with a bespoke design. I went to see a couple of funeral homes before deciding and none came close to A.W. Lymn. Mark, the Funeral Director on the day was also very good and they even arranged for someone to look after my sister's dogs because I wanted them to walk her in to the Crematorium. Mark Collishaw even took time after work to attend my sister's celebration of life at Colwick Hall because we wanted him to attend part of the day, as he had put so much effort in. There were a couple of things on the day of the funeral that were slightly disappointing (seats not reserved as requested which meant older family members were standing at the back as so many people came and the car used for family had minor dust layer on dashboard and window ledges). I also didn't have a very positive or warm experience with City Flowers which is a shame as they are part of A.W. Lymn and in the end I opted for a separate florist. However, overall I would not hesitate to recommend A.W.Lymn at Carlton and cannot thank Mark Collishaw enough for his support during a very sad and difficult time.
