About Us

Southfield Lane Natural Burial Ground is situated in the peaceful parish of Rufforth With Knapton in the Vale of York and is adjoined to the Southfield Lane cemetery.

The burial ground is carefully managed to sustain it as an environmentally-friendly site and is full of native trees, wildflowers, birds and wildlife. The grass on marked paths is cut twice a year, but all other areas are left undisturbed.

Anyone can be interred in the natural burial ground regardless of their faith or beliefs, or their connection to Rufforth with Knapton. It is open for new burials and plots can be reserved and paid for in advance of death.

There is a memorial wall in the formal cemetery and the Parish Council accepts applications for the installation of commemorative plaques on it for people interred in the natural burial ground.

All coffins and urns must be made from biodegradable or eco-friendly materials and ashes cannot be scattered in the area.

A hand-tied posy with biodegradable trimming can be placed on graves at the time of burial, but will be removed after 7 days and no other tributes are permitted.

The natural burial ground is always open and visitors can pay their respects and reflect on the lives of their loved ones at any time. Parking is available.
