Mum was very much affected by the poverty and disease in Nigeria where she and dad lived for 10 years. She recognised the many water borne parasites and infections which were easily preventable with access to clean water and sanitation
and made regular donations to Water Aid until her recent death.

I only met Mrs Grainger a couple of times in the Sixties but she was the beloved Mum to one of my oldest friends so I send my condolences to the family.

My old Mum

The tears have all been shed now
We've said our last goodbyes
Her soul's been blessed, she's laid to rest
And it's now I feel alone.
She was more than just a mother,
A teacher, my best friend
And she can still be heard in the things we shared when
We talked upon our own.

I never will forget her,
For she made me what I am.
Though she may be gone,
Memories linger on.
And I miss her,
My old mum.

As a boy she'd take me walking by mountain field and
Stream,
And she'd show me things not known to kings
A secret between her and me.
Like the way to cook and read a book,
and how to sew and tie a bow

I never will forget her,
For she made me who I am.
Though she may be gone,
Memories linger on.
And I miss her,
My old mum.

I thought she'd live forever
She was so small and thin
But the minutes fly and the years rolled by
For a mother and a child.
And suddenly when it happened
There was so much left unsaid.
No second chance to tell her thanks
For everything she'd done.

Oh I never will forget her,
For she made me what I am.
Though she may be gone,
Memories linger on.
and I miss her,
My old mum.
