I have just returned from Holiday to hear the news of the passing of my old best friend from school. It has been over 20 years since I have seen Alex, but as a testament to the impact he can have on people, it still made me very sad to hear the news.
It was 1987 when I arrived at the very scary Hinchingbrooke school where I first met Alex. We became best friends very quickly. He was funny, popular and a bit of a dude, all the things I wanted to be. I think back on some of the great times we had, some at school but most over some long summers over each others houses. He even made me a member, at 13, of his infamous Houghton posse! I remember vividly sneaking out one Friday night to go to the Cambridge Corn exchange to see ICE-T! It was a lot of fun but boy did we get in trouble. There was no end to Alex's popularity at school, there was no-one that did not like him and I am not surprised by the huge amount of comments, especially like me, from people from his childhood. What I remember most of all was there was no drama with Alex, he just wanted to have fun, it was a wonderful virtue, unappreciated at the time.
My thoughts go out to all his family, I am so, so sorry for your loss.

Although your work on earth is done
Your life in heaven has just begun.
Your struggles here were hard and long
But they're over now, you're finally home.
Life wasn't easy, by choice or fate
A decision made, sometimes too late.
A fight to the finish, always strong
Rest easy Alex you're finally home.
Thoughts are with Sally Harman, Taylor and the family of the lovely Alex Harman.

I've not seen you since school days but my memories are of a very fun individual usually with a face full of mischief. Such a sad and too early a loss. Thinking of you today but most of all thoughts with your friends and family who must be feeling so sad. Have a blast on the other side.

Sadly I can't make the funeral but my heart goes out to Alex and his family at this time, I will always remember Alex or Burn as we knew him as a genuine, decent and all round good guy! We had some memorable times back in the early 90's, ones I'll never forget! We shared the love of our favourite football team and although I hadn't seen Burn for many years Liverpool would have us banging our heads on a regular basis! The world is a sader place without him and he will always live in my memories until the day we'll meet again! YNWA Brother ?
