Simon Lainchbury donated £245 in memory of John

It is with great sadness that I write this message in memory of Dad. He was a gentle kind & a thoughtful man with strong family morals, he carried out these duties with strong & precise accuracy… sometimes he got things wrong, but don’t we all…

I will always be grateful to him for his guidance, his love & memories he passed onto me & thank him for turning me into the person I am today (good & bad) I’m sure I speak on behalf of my brother Ian too. We will carry these memories with us forever.

I'm told by certain people on some occasions that I'm just like my Dad. I'm not quite sure why though as I'm not jolly, I don't moan (well not really) nor do I wear tracksuit bottoms & shoes together... ?

I'm going to miss my Dad (Big brother) following me around, Dad had a huge interest in technology & electronically followed me everywhere, I'd turn my phone on & a message would pop up asking if i'd travelled well & if I was safe, he knew I was there before I did... He was always with me wherever I was and always picked me up upon my return. This I'm going to miss enormously.

His passing has left a huge hole in our hearts that will never be filled, he leaves behind his Grandchildren, 2 of which one day will understand the reasons of him not being here. They will be in attendance with us at the scattering of Dad at his requested place of rest, they will in turn release two balloons to reach him in heaven with a message of love for Grandad.

Dad had many friends & ex colleagues, they were a big part of his life. He was very grateful to them & always spoke highly of them in particular, Robert, Avril, Phyl, Jean, Colin, Ken, Fred, Brian (TLR), Bill & Brian Griffiths but also not forgetting the late Ray (to whom he sorely missed everyday) There were many other friends past & present to which he was grateful to for there friendship. He cherished these moments... I know there were a lot more people who contributed & I apologise for not identifying them all, you know who you are.

I’d like to say a special thank you to Teresa, (his Sister) you were his rock, he adored you & was very grateful for the help you gave him especially when he needed it most. I'd also like to thank you for the support you have given myself & Ian... My thanks also to Pauline for always welcoming Dad & accommodating him especially at Christmas time, I would suggest to Dad to come over to ours for dinner but he was always quick to tell me he was going to yours... Maybe he preferred your cooking or your whiskey measures were larger than ours!

My gratitude also stretches to Father Kavenagh, you have supported Dad unquestionably over the time you've known him.

Dad was a true follower of the lord & with your guidance he can now share his time with him watching over us all.

This has been a very difficult time for us, I thank my Wife Amanda for holding me up & keeping me together.
Ian & I have been overwhelmed by the number of people who attended Dad’s Mass & for the kind messages from everyone, Dad would of been very grateful & proud of you all. We thank you dearly.

Finally, I'd like to thank everybody who donated to Dad's chosen Charity (Marie Curie) he for sure would of been very grateful with your generosity in his memory...

God bless Dad.. Rest in peace x

I knew John for 46 years he taught me a lot about photography-computing & other shared hobbies.
We spent a lot of time with other now dearly departed friend's & one of those was our very best friend Ray Starkey who met John in 1970 at Jennens Ltd a Vauxhall/Bedford garage later known as Presstage ltd in Station road, Coleshill just a short distance from where John lived in Ennersdale road. Ray worked in the stores dept and John went to buy parts for his car. Ray introduced me to John & we became best of friends from then on.

We spent a lot of time together throughout the years & got to know each other very well & shared together with each others family's. I was unmarried at the time but still shared with all that we did .

Ray died & I spent more time visiting John we became special Friends.
When I fell ill first with a Stroke which made me lose my Driving licence and then the following year I became very ill and spent a lot of time in Hospital paralysed for the best part of 8 & a half months, John was there for me he tirelessly visited me every Saturday bringing my Wife with him to see me.

When I came home he carried on coming to see me & on occasions when I felt up to going out he would take me to the computer shows at the Motor Cycle Museum & then to lunch afterwards there were many outings he took me on mostly closer to where I lived at Tamworth.

John I will miss you very much you were as a Brother to me as well as a special friend you will always be in my heart I will never forget you or our friendship until we meet again Farewell Rest in peace free from pain in Heaven with the Lord Jesus.
My love to Johns family Ian, Simon & to his dearest sister Teresa.

Ian / Simon,

I had the privilege of knowing John through Ray and Bob. My main memories of John in the mid 70's and early eighties was of a man with a dry wit... almost dour, but behind that there was a twinkle.

When Ray and I formed our Gospel group Patchwork and won a talent contest with BRMB radio and were then invited to record music.
We had an opportunity for a few silly songs subsequently and we spent a weekend at the studio manger's large house in Aldridge which had a recording studio in the basement, we drank beer and we had a real laff...John did a great job on an impromptu overdub on the Jaw's Harp. Class.

Ray took me under his wing as a crap guitarist around 19 and Bob and John were his best mates... I then had the privilege of being close to Ray (he was best man at my wedding in 1977) and playing guitar with him for nearly 40 years until his health failed... I feel truly privileged to have been allowed into that circle.

I thought John's dedication to Bob was remarkable, but not unexpected of the man, given his devotion to Phyllis after Ray's sad passing, and when he rang and told me mid last year of Bob's troubles, it showed a person who deeply cared for others.. as your family eulogy at Sacred Heart and Teresa today captured.

I wish you every hope for the future and hope you can find comfort in having a Dad who touched others, and a had life well lived.
God Bless,
Dave Pendry.
