WHEN I TURN MY TOES UP
By John Farrow
WHEN I TURN MY TOES UP BOY,
AND MY TIME HAS COME TO PASS.
KNOW I WILL WATCH OVER YOU,
FROM THIS MOMENT ‘TIL YOUR LAST.
SHED NO TEAR FOR I HAVE LIVED MY LIFE AS AN EXTREMELY PROUD MAN.
I HAVE NURTURED, LOVED, LAUGHED
AND GAVE AS BEST I POSSIBLY CAN.
MY HEART IS FULL OF LOVE AND PRIDE,
WITH THOSE I HAVE WALKED THROUGH LIFE,
I HAVE WORKED HARD, PLAYED FAIR,
AND KEPT YOU BOYS OUT OF STRIFE.
AS YOU CONTINUE TO JOURNEY ON WITHOUT ME BY YOUR SIDE,
REMEMBER TO FOLLOW YOUR HOPES AND DREAMS,
AND SHOW YOUR HEART WITH PRIDE.
ONWARDS AND UPWARDS,
PICK YOURSELF UP, DUST YOURSELF DOWN,
THIS I SAY TO YOU
WHATEVER SHOUD LAY AHEAD,
LET MY WORDS HELP CARRY YOU THROUGH.
IT LOOKS LIKE LAST ORDERS,
AND NOW THE BELL HAS RUNG.
REMEMBER ME IN YOUR HEART BOY,
YOU KNOW I LOVES YOU SON
XXX
Dad, why’d you have to go so soon?
To me it makes no sense.
Why did we spend our last moments,
Talking about Westham’s crappy defense?
I wish I could take that call again,
To say some words so true
How proud I am you’re my father,
How this world is now a lesser place without you.
In your last years, I know the pain you suffered Dad,
And one thing I am relieved,
That as we lay your body to rest,
Your soul has now been freed.
A man of great stature,
And to me stood ten feet tall
You carried me on your shoulders,
Bought my first car,
And taught me to kick a ball.
You have left me so many memories,
Too many to speak of in one day.
I might be saying goodbye to you now Dad,
But forever locked in my heart you will stay.
I will be off to the Bowls now pops
for a pint or two
I’ll order a white wine in a tall glass with ice,
To have one final drink with you.
I love you Dad xxx
