I worked closely with Alan for four years. When I joined the team I did not know Alan well but right from the outset I found him very welcoming and supportive. We soon became good friends and shared many happy hours together. It was hard to be down for long when in Alan's company. I know that Sue and the family will miss Alan greatly as will all of us who had the pleasure of knowing him. Bye old friend.

Wyn

Although it is over 25 years since Alan and I were at COI together I haven't forgotten the many good
times we shared both in and out of the office. Alan was unfailingly resourceful. He could always be counted on to get a job done however demanding the client or tight the deadline and always with good grace and good humour. He took his work seriously yet was seldom without a cheeky grin on his face.
I was particularly grateful to him for the way he looked after me when I visited Brisbane for Expo 88 and he was in charge of the British pavilion. He couldn't have done more to make me welcome and introduce me to people including hosting a most enjoyable dinner for me. I also remember partnering him - and winning - in a tennis match against the Consul-General and joining him for a never-to-be-forgotten day - and night - on the Gold Coast which included morning on the beach, afternoon on the
golf course and evening in a riotous dinner at a cabaret club !
Back on home soil Alan was also very generous in inviting me to his golf club. I remember several very enjoyable tussles on the course, always followed by more good cheer at the 19th.
Alan was a man of many talents - particularly as an artist - but I shall always remember him best for his sense of fun. In sending my condolences to Sue and the rest of his family I hope it will comfort them to know the high regard in which Alan was held. He was great company and leaves behind a lot of friends.

As my colleague at the Central Office of Information Alan managed international exhibitions for the Government. His calm good humour could be relied upon to reassure panicking clients as the opening day drew near, and his professionalism would ensure that even the most stroppy contractors met their commitments. As a friend I spent many lunchtimes with Alan and valued greatly his warm company and wry views of the world.
