In loving memory of Roy Burnett who sadly passed away on 11th March 2017
Roy, brother to Lucy and Gordon who have pre-deceased him, was born on 27th May 1931.
He served his national service in the Army, during which he played violin in the army band, but was invalided out due to Psoriasis.
Roy was a keen footballer, usually playing in goal and loved to tell stories about his playing days.
He was also a choirboy in St. Nicholas Church, Southfleet, having joined at the age of 8, and up until his last hospitalisation, was still singing! His singing career blossomed, and he was auditioned as a professional tenor, but decided to stay amateur and sang with the Cooperative Gilbert & Sullivan Operatic, The Cuxton Group, and many others.
Roy also played his mandolin, duetting with sister Lucy (also a talented singer),as well as piano and violin.
He was well known as THE piano tuner, and until recently worked for the likes of Jules Holland and the Woodville theatre and he also gave his services for free to the Oxfam shops that sold pianos, getting them to saleable pitch.
Roy would also have liked a tribute paid to his long-time accompanist Mrs Phylis Lloyd, who played piano at his concerts, whom he dearly loved and we know she will miss him.
He is survived by his cousin Doris Burnett, now in her 90s, and by his brother's widow Lillian and her son Richard, daughter Jennifer and Sky all living in Canada.
Roy will be missed by so many people who loved this generous, caring and also self-effacing gentleman.
