Darling Julia, I am so sorry for your loss. Your Mum was clearly one brave lady. Her health dealt her the most unlucky hand, but she hit the jackpot with you as a daughter. She could not have been more loved.
Jen xx

I knew Barbara through my best friend Julia. When we were younger I would call Julia for a chat & Barbara would answer the phone and have a little chat with me before she passed me over. As we grew older, Julia left home but whenever I saw Barbara , she always managed to crack a really beautiful smile. Looking back at old photos I can really see how beautiful Barbara was, something her 3 children have inherited! I hope you are at peace now and doing all the things you've not been able to for so long!! I know you will be very missed but you are now finally free xxxx

Thank you Barbara for all those years together. All will be remembered and not forgotten.
Thank you for being adventurous, brave and courageous.
Thank you for all the laughter and happiness.
Thank you for the love of music and art. We could spend hours wandering around galleries as small as Hall Place.
Thank you for the leisure on the famous Erith Pier.
Thank you for cruising into the wildness of Norway.
Thank you for all the little things and moments that are endless in those few years.
"This ship is taking me far away" you are probably singing along with your favourite Muse but you will always stay close to our hearts.
Love, Jolanta

Dear Teresa, Fred, Julia, Laura, Sophie and Oscar,

In memory of Barbara's smile and generosity. When we were all very young we visited Babcia in Bristol. It was a lovely surprise to receive two brand new Enid Blyton books from cousins Barbara and Teresa. Can't remember if I was 6 or 7 or 9, but the memory of their thoughtfulness lingers with me always. They had made a special trip to the high street to buy the gift. Basia was a few years older than me. As a child, on family visits, I looked up to her and Teresa - their knowledge of fashion was beyond my experience. It was the 60s! There are photos of Basia in Uncle Rysiek's book (published last month) and in her young days Basia was very beautiful. She was gentle and kind. I am grateful to Basia for letting me stay in her room at Killyon Road when I was a student in London (and she was studying elsewhere) and it's then that I learned of Fred. I recall several family gatherings over the years, in particular when Charles was born, Basia came with her daughters and presented me with another gift which I recall to this day with sorrow that our lives have been so much apart. I am left with a feeling of sadness for a life curtailed by MS.

Regretfully I am unable to attend the funeral. I send condolences and hope to meet you all in happier times.

I met Barbara at school.... just before she was expelled. She was a wild young lady and celebrated and lived life passionately and to the full in the fast lane. She mellowed enough to get an A level (although she had to be physically pushed into the exam hall) but she grew to love art and design and obtained a good degree in Fine Art and Textile Design from Farnham and then went onto work with Zandra Rhodes.

She eventually became a mum and that was a truly awesome and almost unbelievable transformation. She had always been beautiful but now she was radiant. When she was about 7 months pregnant a young man jumped out of his car at a zebra crossing and on his knees asked her to marry him. Luckily she didn't accept and went on to have three wonderful daughters - Julia, Laura and Sophie. She was the most attentive, caring, loving mother anyone could ever have.

Barbara fought hard against her MS illness with her usual vigour and passion but the illness just kept diminishing her physical abilities till eventually it took them nearly all away and causing her pain, suffering and paralysis. She was regularly admitted to hospital and was occasionally so poorly they administered last rites. Her daughters mainly provided the essential care she still needed despite being in hospital sometimes 10 -12 hours a day for 10 days (with some help from her sister and a little from me).

I saw the unbelievable care , attention, and devotion again this time from them to her which took my breath away. One time our grandson was being born on the 2nd Floor of the Princes Royal Hospital and Barbara was in intensive care (having had last rites again) on the 4th floor. She was resurrected with her family's significant help and got to meet little Oscar and receive some of his slobbery kisses/licks with a laugh. She gave (and received) unconditional love, unending patience, detailed and devotional care - she was special.

The illness diminished her physical abilities, eroding her health mercilessly and tragically but through it all Barbara kept her special love of life that she always had from day one. She was a radiant beacon of light to everyone that knew her - she loved life even when life did not love her back. She had to endure the unendurable but she was special. If we were lucky enough to know her then we might be able to celebrate the fact we knew her, that she was amongst us and for me at least still is in some ways.

Rest in peace my darling
