In loving memory of James Wallace who sadly passed away on 27th May 2017

Fraser Wallace wrote

Dad,

Mum’s last request to me
Was to take care of you
And for all that you did for Gail and I
It’s the least that we could do

I didn’t know what the journey would be
And I didn’t dare to ask
The only thing for me to do
Was to carry out that task

The journey was longer than expected
Many health scares on the way
But it didn’t deter my focus
I just took it day by day

I had my trusty pal by me
With Kenny by my side
I’m so grateful for the strength he gave
When he joined me on this ride

Care packages, The Royal Vic,
Then the Care Home placing came through
So our friends at Ford’s Road Care Home
Then joined the journey too

You settled quickly in the Care Home
There’s no doubt that is true
Tommy is a diamond,
But Tony is a blue!

The lads are a great bunch
And they’re up for a laugh
But the girls in there are better
When assisting with a bath

We went in there as strangers
But we’ll leave as friends
And at the end of this service
That’s where the journey ends

I dreaded when the phone would ring
And I had to get there fast
It was usually some Doctor on the line
Telling me your failing fast

They clearly didn’t know you Dad
And they didn’t know your past
As you were made of stronger stuff
And you were built to last

I recall saying to you Dad
You’re gonna turn me to the drink
But you looked at me, gave a smile
And said I’m stronger than you think

I knew the time would come one day
When that call would be the last
That call came on a Friday
Two Fridays that just past

We came up to see you
I’ve watched you many times that way
But I believed when I saw you
That day was not the day

We were sent to a quiet room
I saw a change in you
There had been a change of shift next morning
And a change in point of view

We came back in to see you
I knew this would be the last
I saw you at peace Dad
And I’m grateful it was fast

Love you Dad xxx
