Deepest condolences to the family. I worked with Pam in the School of Archaeology & Ancient History from January 2002 until she retired. I still have a Christmas card that Pam sent to me in December 2001 saying that she was looking forward to working with me in the January – this was such a kind and thoughtful gesture and made me feel completely at ease and is a lovely example of Pam’s thoughtfulness. Pam was a dear friend and colleague and after she retired I looked forward to visiting her on an evening when she would go to the trouble to make me a ‘special’ vegetarian dish and we would sit in her conservatory admiring her beautiful garden. My memories of Pam will always bring smiles because of her honesty and bluntness! - This is why we loved her! Whenever I see a butterfly or dragonfly they remind me of Pam, as does the colour lilac, and I always remember her saying that a weed is not a weed if it as a beautiful flower. She always looked lovely and I always admired how she matched her jewellery to coordinate with her outfit! I could go on with the memories and funny stories. Pam I will miss you. Much love Pauline xx

I worked with Pam at The Education Department in Leicester for a number of years. I have known Pam since I was 16 and I am now 71. My boyfriend at the time (Pete) and I used to go out with Pam and Mick to dances and shows and we had such a laugh. The photograph of Pam and I was taken at Pentewan in Cornwall a few years ago. I watched her three children grow and how proud of them she was. Pam, Mick and children stayed with us for one night when they were on holiday and they all had great fun together.

Pam and I both followed the fashion at the time including the bouffant hair styles.

I will miss my old friend. Anita and Geoff

Dear Isabelle, Lynda and Steve,
Just a note to say that I was so sorry to hear the sad news about your mam's death. She was an absolute rock in the days when I was in the Dept.....and if she'd ever gone on strike the place would have stopped functioning! As Nick Cooper said in his message... she was genuinely warm hearted and a good friend . She always had the interests of the students at heart too... even though she could be tough when she had to be (she had the measure of all of the staff as well!). It was a privilege to have known her and I know that there's nothing much that people can say at a time like this that makes it any easier... but I'll be thinking about you and I'll be remembering Pam with a big smile.
Take care
Rob Young

Dear Isabelle, Lynda and Steven
Very sorry to hear of your mum's passing; what a terrible shame. I first met Pam when I came to the University as a student in 1981 and although I have worked in the Archaeology Department ever since, I'm sure your mum continued to think of me as that mop-haired youth who first poked his head round the door wearing stripy trousers and winkle picker boots i.e. 'trouble'! Pam considered our punk clothing as a potentially malign influence on your fashion choices whenever you visited the department! Pam was always warmhearted and helpful and a good friend to have on your side, but she could also be stern when it was for your own good. I remember her tearing a strip off me when I said I wasn't going to my graduation ceremony...and of course I changed my mind immediately! Keep talking and remembering and you will get through this sad time.
