In loving memory of (Terry) Terence Malcolm Dudley who sadly passed away on the 27th July 2017 at Basingstoke Hospital, aged 67.

Terry (Dad) has always found great joy in a variety of activities throughout his life and had a great love for the sea, the sky and his family.

As a teenager Terry enjoyed attending the Air Cadets and even got his gliding pilot license. He loved all planes and often had his binoculars out telling us children what plane was flying over the garden.

Terry loved boats and in his younger days enjoyed taking his boat out on the River Thames. Unfortunately, due to time commitments he had to sell this boat. However once Dad retired his first purchase was a narrowboat which he named the “Daisy D” in memory of his mother. He enjoyed going on day trips around Kennet and Avon teaching his children how to steer and work the locks.

Dad loved work and often would say to us that “If you find a job you love in life, you’re winning”. Additionally his favourite coffee mug used to say “The kids the house a constant mess, I come to work so I can rest”. He always spoke highly of his work colleagues, many we met in our younger years. It was lovely to see as children how much they supported him and my mother.

He loved going to Spain and brought a place for him and my mother to enjoy. He enjoyed a coffee at “Rory’s” and a pint at the “Dog house”. What we believed he really loved most about Spain was reminding his children how good the weather was.

Dad will always be remembered for his devotion to his wife Patricia (Trisha) whom he spent every moment ensuring had the best quality of life he could offer. In memory of Dad we are donating to Headway, which is a brain injury charity that supported us by providing us vital and useful information in those beginning years after Trisha accident.

Please share if you desire a comment, story or fond memory for us to read and rejoice in Terry’s life.

Very sad to hear this news. Terry was a great person to work for and much respected. Living in France I haven't seen Terry and Trisha for some years but Terry and I continued to have 'catch-ups' on the phone. Indeed I was only talking to him a couple of months ago so I am shocked to hear that he has passed away. My sincere condolences to Terry's family.

I was lucky enough to work with Terry for around 8 years. He was a great character, who really helped my career and was a good friend. I will always have fond memories of sharing Chinese meals, happy days on the canal, and of his unique approach to managing suppliers (and sometimes colleagues!) - loyalty and direct "feedback" in equal measure. He was very hard-working, but never at the expense of his family. He will be much missed.

Terry was a great boss, he was always encouraging you to achieve more. He always supported his staff in front of others, but would let you know if your decision was wrong.
He created a great team who all rallied around when Patsy had her terrible accident.
My best wishes to all the family for their sad loss

Sad to hear that Terry had died. My condolences to the family. I was fortunate to have worked for Terry, he had a knack for getting the best out of people. He often made time to visit his Leicester team and was well liked by them. A unique character.

  • As a mark of how much Terry was appreciated, the new IS Mobile Technology building in Leicester, opened in 2003, was named Dudley House.

  • Hi Chris, thanks for your comments. Is the thing about the building actually true? We were discussing this just the other day that we never knew whether dad was joking about this or being serious!

  • Hi Nadine, it's absolutely true. I searched for a photo of the plaque (the building was officially opened by Centrica's Chief Information Officer), but couldn't find one, I'll have another look.

A shock to read this. Terty was fantastic to work for and always talked about family as well as work. I remember him deciding to retire when we were in Japan to look after his family. Alwsys loyal and fair. A man who was deeply respected by those who worked for him.
