It comes to us all but Maureen Reichwald's death marks the end of an era. I was in Francis House from 1961 to 1966, at a time when Blundell's was an all-male school. I have a debt of gratitude to Maureen and Chris which I can never repay for their influence on me during my teenage years.
We're going back over 50 years, to the time when the 'job' was that of Housemaster, of which Chris was one of the best. Rather like a clergy spouse, the housemaster's wife married into the job rather than chose it, but Maureen's support for Chris, support for the school and support for the children in Chris's charge was unstinting and exemplary.
Chris and Maureen treated every pupil as an individual and they knew them all well but that didn't end when they left school. Many of us will have happy memories of get-togethers in their front room on the evening of Old Boys' Days, when we were invited back for refreshments. They were excellent hosts.
I reckon Chris's death from cancer pre-deceased Maureen by about 40 years. Now reunited and with thanks to them both, may they Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory.

I am sorry to hear of the death of Maureen (or Mrs Reichwald, as I remember her at the age of 13). I was lucky enough to have been a border at Francis House from 1968 up to 1972 and to have lovely memories of Maureen and Chris in that time. They were both always very kind and gave me a happy and secure environment in which to grow up away from home. I am sorry that I live too far away to come to her funeral, but my prayers will be with her and her family on that day.
