In loving memory of Ronald Arthur (Ron) Ashby who sadly passed away on 28th September 2017 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers / Dementia

A loving husband to Marlene Ashby of 60+ years - a father to Sharon and Glen, and their respective partners Steve and Paula. In addition he will be greatly missed by 5 grand-children - Holly, Josh, Zack, Craig & Grant and great grandchildren Freya, Buddy, Stevie and Frankie.

Ron was born 8th February 1932. just prior to World War Two.

He lived in the same house in Walthamstow for 83 years and was an active member of Spruce Hill Baptist Church where in his younger years he was a member of the Boys Brigade where he made many lifelong friends !!!

During the war, he was evacuated to St Ives in Cornwall which due to his fond memories from polishing shoes at Tregenna Castle Hotel, when he was an evacuee, to having his hair cut at Barber the Barbers, meant that over the years this would become his second home, where he and his family spent many weeks of many years holidaying and where for some years he owned a holiday home in nearby Carbis Bay.

His evacuee experience meant a lot to him and he joined the Evacuee Association and was asked for input to a book on the experience.

He served his National Service with the RAF and this was something he was very proud of but his love for Marlene meant that he often cycled many miles to come home to see her.

He worked initially as a buyer at local firm Short & Mason before moving into a sales job with Aluminium Alzek before working for several years as a salesman for Duckhams Oils, before being promoted to a Regional Sales Manager before starting out on his own with a couple of colleagues in Silgo Lubricants, from where he retired.

He loved Horse Racing, Dog racing and watching his grandsons play football in addition to listening and dancing to music.

Whilst very family orientated, he was also very active in his local community, where in addition to helping at Spruce Hill Baptist Church he became the Chairman of the residents association when they were fighting against planning approval for larger buildings in Wadham Lodge.

His final years were spent at George Mason Lodge where he was very well cared for.
