In loving memory of Alan Keith Butterfield who passed away suddenly at Queen’s Hospital on 30th October 2017, aged 70 years.

Devoted husband of Ruth, loving father of Julie & Gary, Craig & Esther and Kristy & Rob. A treasured pops, uncle Al and special friend to all who knew him. He will be sadly missed.

Well Alan old friend time to say goodbye but not to those memories and there are so many. The one I would like to recall was that childhood holiday in Caister which I will never forget September 1958. Every morning on the beach your dad sprayed us with suntan oil so two little boys would not burn whilst we played. Where ever you are you were a monkey on that big wheel with us at the top and you standing up and swinging that gondola I will never forget your mum sitting down on that small wall a long way below us, because she came over bad looking up at us with your dad standing next to her and me thinking steady on mate it does not seem so safe up here. When it was our turn to get off the Big Wheel your dad was there with a telling off for both of us. Your mum thought we were too young to be on The Big Wheel full stop. There are so many wonderful times we spent together gone but never forgotten. Love always Harry

The Margate 1973 side that played the great Tottenham side that had just won the Uefa cup.

  • When Alan spoke to me about this match he said it was a joke really they did not know what to do with Martin Chivers he was such a big lump. They had nobody in the Margate side that could match his size and mark him. Plus Spurs had 10 other good players

I feel like I have lost a younger brother. It is so sad that you are gone all those hours we spent together in our formative years. I almost lived in his flat with his mum and dad. I have so many memories of those years. The kindness of your mum and dad and your whole family towards me can never be forgotten. Where ever you are right now God bless you and protect you from your closest childhood friend. Love you always Harry
