In loving memory of Carl Wallbank who sadly passed away on 11th November 2017.

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends who will remember him most for his wit and humour, able to see the funny side of any situation and never taking life too seriously.

He was director of Burning Bertie's Ltd, a company which he created himself, producing unusual and personalised chilli sauces and spice blends through his own unique recipes which he shipped to customers all over the world.

The funeral will be followed by a wake at between 2.30pm - 5pm at Bridgewood Manor, near Bluebell Hill, Walderslade Woods, Chatham, ME5 9AX. All are welcome to attend.

Carl had a generous heart and would help anyone that he could. If you would like to make an online donation to Shelter in his memory you can do so through this page.

If preferred flowers may be sent c/o John Weir Funeral Directors, 130-132 High Street, Rainham, Kent ME8 8AR by 10:00 am on the day.

You are a very special soul Carl, that will remain with me forever. You were so caring to all and you wanted to send me your hot sauce and wouldn’t let me pay you because you wanted so much for others to enjoy your creations. We will meet again one day and I look forward to it. I trust you are in a happy place looking down on us and feeling the love from the chilli community that you were and are such a big part of. I miss you so much brother. See you again in the future.

I well remember the dirty jokes Carl used to tell us Lynas boys when he came to stay with us in St. Davids. One in particular has stayed with me now for over thirty years, but it is, unfortunately, not the type of thing you share with people on Internet message boards. As a child, I loved the feeling that my cousin from the big city (Gillingham seems like the big city when you're growing up in rural Wales) was sharing 'urban' stuff with his country bumpkin cousins. It was Carl who introduced me to the term 'gutted', as in, 'he was well gutted.' Clear memories after all these years of someone I probably only met a handful of times. Goodbye Carl.

This donation is on behalf of Gran who would be immensely sad to learn of Carl’s mission ‘to infinity and beyond’ in his hunt for new chilli recipes.

Carl was an absolute diamond.I first met him when we shared a house in Rochester. He actually rescued me by banging on the door one night after I'd fallen asleep after a few beers.I'd left the hotplate on whilst poaching some fish and the stench of burning haddock must've woken him.We stank of fish for a week!LOL.So many great memories of Carl and though we'd not seen each other for a couple of years,we remained mates from our time down the Star Hill house.Sad to think I'll never hear him say "Bert" again but the fantastic memories I have of him will stay with me forever.RIP Carl, sleep tight fella x
