An absolutely lovely man, very sad to hear of his passing. Thank-you Nigel for sharing his life story. (I grew up next door.) I remember him walking us to cub scouts & teaching us to count in presumably (quick lookup) Serbo Croatian. We went fishing a few times too. Love to all x

  • The fishing trips are a cold reminder of the River Trent to me - I just caught gudgeon for hours - but Dad clearly loved the time spent there. Thanks for the good memory jogger! Nigel

Uncle Pete a true gentleman who I will remember fondly always. I am sure as the years pass by there will always be something that reminds the family of treasured memories of times we shared together.

I always remember your first car which years ago was pure luxury and I could boast about to my friends. I remember you stopping under the M1 motorway bridge and lettting me sit at the wheel going through ABC ‘accelerator, brake, clutch’ then letting me have a little go at driving. I either had two left feet or was useless at the alphabet as we never moved more than a foot. That was my first and last lesson you gave me. I’ve often wondered if you had to have a large whiskey to calm your nerves.

I could go on forever about all the lovely memories you have given not only to me your second favourite niece (now that’s another lovely story to tell and your last parting piece of cheekiness you gave Michelle and I - bless you for that) but good times spent with Maureen, Harold, Richard, Adam and Steph.

Until we meet again XX

Uncle and Great Uncle Peter (or Uncle Pete as we called you)

Such a genuinely loving, caring, family orientated man. You were so thoughtful and considerate, even during your final days you would always ask how we all were and what we'd been up to, always telling me to make sure I looked after myself without even a mention of how you were feeling yourself, which just showed how truly selfless you were.

You were one of the few people to call me Shelley, which I have always and will still hold very close to my heart. You'd often greet me or others however with "Hello me ducky" and you also had a funny way of saying the word 'lovely' which seemed to be said in a Brummie accent. Oh you did make us laugh!!

I have so many happy, funny memories of you. You'd take us to Bramcote Swimming Pool on Sunday mornings in your cream coloured Triumph car; you took us to collect conkers from Conker Ally as we then called it; we'd occasionally go for a summer afternoon/evening walk as families and call at the pub on the way back; but one of my funniest memories of you was shared with Nigel. (I'm sure he'll remember). We were young and watching cartoons on the TV. Embarrassing as it may seem now, but we were watching Scooby Doo; you just so happened to walk in the room and said "It's SCOOPY DOO! instead of Scooby. It made us laugh so much and ever since if by chance I've heard the theme music to that cartoon, it's brought a smile to my face and I've had a little chuckle.

Memories of you spring to mind of a family holiday we shared in Great Yarmouth. A particular day on the beach where we suddenly found ourselves in the middle of a heavy downpour and we all had to quickly gather everything together, grabbing our waterproof coats if we had time, the adults sitting in the deckchairs, whilst us youngsters were sitting round the back and in front of the deckchairs shielded by you, Auntie Mavis, our mum and dad, with towels over our heads to help keep us dry. We all stood on the sand dunes afterwards blowing our clothes and coats to get dry; it was so much fun. I also remember when we hired a beach hut; it was a little haven. You were so proud of taking your camping gas stove to be able to make us cups of tea. Good thinking Uncle Pete.

Oh, but how could I forget how you so loved to stop at the pie and mushy pea stall on the way back to the hotel in the evening. You so loved those peas. Which brings me on to your love of food...... I loved to see how you enjoyed eating a lamb shank or roast dinner at a family get together. Although you'd sometimes get a telling off for spilling gravy down your tie; the way you rolled your eyes as if to say "oh well", it was hilarious.

Finally Uncle Peter, I will never forget you and Lucy sneaking off for a crafty beverage at Adam and Steph's wedding. Especially that little twinkle and wink of the eye you gave when you returned with a pint in your hand. I don't know who influenced who, but I remember you saying Lucy was to blame, Ha Ha. Hmmmm I wonder! You were such a comedian.

All the above memories I will treasure of you, as will no doubt, Matt, Luke and Lucy of other memories they have of you too.

You were such a wonderful Uncle and Great Uncle who we loved dearly.

May you Rest In Peace Uncle Peter. God Bless
All our Love, Michelle, Matteo, Luke and Lucy xxxx
