In loving memory of Iver Jerome Fairburn Mackay who sadly passed away on 16th February 2018 peacefully in his sleep in his own bed after sharing a cup of tea and chat with his daughter.

Iver was a loving father to Wendy and Stuart and grandfather to Maya. Although separated from Carys for many years he was still a good friend.

Iver was a translator by profession but dabbled in work as a private investigator and radio journalism. He led a complicated life at times and was challenged with bipolar at a young age when it first appeared during his finals in Oxford University studying French and German. The pinnacle of his career would have been him being responsible for the interpretation of Neil Armstong's landing on the moon and communicating Armstrong's words to the French nation on a national radio channel.

Living as a resident in both France and England alternating through his life with the two countries he had passions for both but ultimately deciding to reside in Croydon in Surrey and holidaying in France annually. His family travelled with him to visit the Cote D'azur and the Loire Valley which was where in Saumur he was brought up in his mothers home.

A big lover of music, people and technology his later retired years were engaged with mobile phone technology, listening to radio and in most recent years enjoying music on social media and always enjoying regular conversation with his family, neighbours and many friends.

He made friends with all his contacts and held life long rapports with opticians, dentists, volunteers he engaged with through services, befrienders and mobile phone advisers! He had many good friends who came to visit him and help him as his mobility became more reduced and he was less able to hop on and off the Croydon buses like he used to do.He had good friends who have been there for him for many years supporting his needs and enjoying his company.

Iver always tried to help people and rarely judged people. He was open to all sorts of people and always thought the best of them . He was good fun with a cheeky sense of humour, loved scrabble and board games , enjoyed reading biographies and learning about new technological advances. He regularly was in correspondence with Oxford university and tried to visit with company to assist whenever there was a party!

He was a dog lover, appreciated nature and history, politics and current affairs. He was an avid internet fan with friends made through his own connections but also his children' and grand daughters friends! Always communicating through email, text and social media to stay in touch with everyone.

He was a Legend. A brave, strong, loyal and true gentleman who has touched many people's lives .Google will certainly have more data left through his loss. As a family friend quoted Iver was very brave for a very long time. Stay in touch Dad. RIP Iver X

Iver has been a very close friend of mine for many years. I and my sister Anno have had close family connections with him. Our father and Iver’s father were very good friends in Shanghai before the last war, where our father worked in shipping and Iver senior in banking. Moreover my father was partly brought up in France, and Iver’s mother was French, so our families shared French connections.
I always admired Iver’s fortitude, faced with bipolar depressive problems since an early age. He never showed self-pity, remaining cheerful and humorous. We were both Oxford graduates, a shared experience. I often stayed with him at Croydon, sharing happy evenings together.
Iver has had a wonderfully supportive family who upheld him lovingly over his trials for years. I would like to thank them for all they have done for him. He was someone who was so worth helping, giving to others in his own adversity.
Thank’you for’our shared times together, Iver. I believe you will still be with loved ones, and that we will meet again.
David

We at PBS Telecom are very saddened to hear of the loss of Iver. Over the years, we have been amazed at his in-depth knowledge and enthusiasm shown to Android Mobile phones. We have actively encouraged and helped Iver in his quest to discover the depths and working of Android software, and at times he has also shown us a thing or two. Age had no barrier for him, and his thirst for knowledge was truly unique.

Had Iver lived closer to us, I’m Very confident that he could have joined our team as a full time employee. Iver’s personality and enthusiasm for life was very infectious, and will be sadly missed by all that knew him. He was a true Legend and gentleman, and held in very high esteem within our business. He will be sadly missed. God bless you I’ve. Safe onward journey.

I first met Iver through volunteering with Age UK Croydon which I started about a year and a half ago. We instantly got on. Iver was always full of life; the visits were the highlight of my week. I will miss our chats about the latest technology, French news and our regular Facebook chats. I am so happy Iver was a part of my life even though it was so short. I feel privileged to have become a friend of his. RIP Iver, I will never forget you. Bree xx
