God bless you my beautiful boy, you are now laid to rest and in the arms of the lord. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone that attended Nick’s funeral it was amazing, the love that came through from his family, friends and colleagues was so powerful and energising. He was much loved by many. When we arrived at the crematorium I had a momentary feeling of panic that I couldn’t do this, but when I saw the high turnout and felt the love and strength coming from his family and friends my fears evaporated, and with my daughters, partner and family by my side I knew that I could.

His employer said of Nick that he knew in 2013 as soon as he walked through the door that this man was someone extraordinary and special, he had a smile on his face, and was confident. He said that he was a good employee, hardworking and conscientious and never let him down.

I’d like to say a huge thank you to Nick’s pallbearers, his step dad, brother-in- law, nephews and cousins they did a difficult job in difficult times and even though their hearts were breaking they held their heads up high and honoured Nick with so much love and dignity. Nick’s sister Sam did a sterling job in her eulogy, it was moving and touching and even though she felt like breaking down and weeping, she stood tall and delivered her speech flawlessly.

There were friends at Nick’s funeral that had known him from a toddler, that had not seen him for many years, but they took the time and made the effort to pay their last respects and rejoice in having known him and the joy he had brought into their lives ‘Nick lit up a room when he walked in’. From the bottom of my heart I thank you all.

Nick was a very loving, caring and gentle person, he had a strong love of animals, no more so than his little dog Jack. My own dogs would get so excited when Nick walked through the door, he’d let my dogs smoother him with licks and kisses, I used to say to him don’t let them do that, Nick and I had stand offs about it, but Nick would say I like them to, he usually left my home looking like a yeti. Even with my chickens, Nick would let them sit on his lap or pet them, they would come running when they saw him. I have Jack now and I vow to you Nick that I will love him and take great care of him has you would have done.

Although Nick did not have children of his own he loved all children, he loved his friend’s children and grandchildren and he loved his ex-partner’s children. He took great pride in his two nephews whom he loved passionately, Nick would have made a truly remarkable father.
