In loving memory of Sheena Dawn Taniguchi who sadly passed away on 21st March 2018.
Sheena grew up in Hathersage, Derbyshire where her love for dance began. From the age of 3 Sheena started dancing lessons every week and in her teenage years, starred in ITV’s ‘Junior Showtime’. Even as a child, Sheena had determination and passion to pursue what she loved.
At the age of 18, with the support of her parents Tony and Margaret, Sheena got her first contract with ‘The Blue Bell Girls’. Initially training in Paris then working in South Korea. On her return home, Sheena knew that there was more to life than Derbyshire and made her way to East Asia, securing dance contracts in Hong Kong and Japan where eventually she started her own dance troops. She ventured further than dance and experimented in modelling, with amazing success. Sheena was known as ‘The Chanel Modrocker’ in Hong Kong. Those who know Sheena would often hear her stories of the 80’s in Hong Kong and later moving to Japan where she met Akina’s dad, Ryuji. These were some of her best years where she thrived not just as a dancer, model and choreographer, but as an individual. She had a gift of finding joy everywhere and leaving it behind. She flooded lives with light and laughter, hopes and dreams.
Sheena moved back to the UK with Akina in 1995, to Ravenshead to be with her family but had to start her life from scratch. Her first job in Ravenshead which is where she made many friends, was at The Sherwood Ranger. She was thankful to the friendly faces who made her feel welcome.
But, the Sheena who most of you know today is due to the dance school ‘The Ravenshead School of Dance’.which was passed to her by Mrs Green when she retired. She put her heart and soul in to the school, starting at The Village Hall and later achieving her dream of opening her own studio, Studio 29.
Although many people associated Sheena with Dance, she was so much more than that. She had many battles in her life and maintained a strong and positive outlook. She loved the world and enjoyed life for what it was.

We would like to send our sincere condolences to Sheena’s family. Sheena was a wonderful dance teacher, mentor and friend to me and my boys. She was caring and kind, inspiring and creative; we loved spending time with her and were always made to feel welcome at Studio 29. Sheena encouraged, supported and motivated my boys to dance and always had time for them. Tom always asked to arrive early or stay later at the Studio, so that he could chat with Sheena. He sorely misses her kindness, encouragement and her belief in him. She has inspired and nurtured him and given him a wonderful foundation in dance and in life, (as well as Japanese!).
Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Sheena’s family. Sheena is irreplaceable and she will be deeply missed by us all,
