In loving memory of Derek Arthur Thorpe who sadly passed away on 4th May 2018 , a lovely gentleman, husband , Dad ,Papa and Grandpa and also a loving brother.
Kind and gentle and generous, willing to help anybody that asked.
A brilliant sense of humour and diy expert. Nothing was ever any trouble and if he could help you in anyway , he would.
A fun loving man and a keen dog lover , he loved to walk his dog and visiting parks with the grandchildren too.
You will be missed and forever loved. Rest easy now, free from pain.

We're do I start dad you have been a rock to me over the years and you have helped mr through some of the worst times of my life especially me loosing Harrison. I will not forget you coming to Rainbows and holding me so tight when you came in that was all I wanted that day
You have done so much for mre, Teaching me how to drive you had so much patients lol 😂 but I think your calm nature and talking to me a lot about what to do rally helped me
You were there for me through a lot of heartbreaks especially boys and I remember you saying to me always trust a dogs instinct when she used to growl you said they are a good judge of character and weren't you wright xx
Helping me with homework especially Maths this is why I think I love Maths so much because it reminds me of times we did it together
I will miss you so much and I feel angry because you were taken as well but I know you are not suffering anymore and you are looking after my beautiful boy and I say goodnight to you and Harrison every night
You will always be with me and I love you so much Dad and will miss you so much. Until we meet again ❤️❤️❤️

Emma Large donated £21 in memory of Derek

As you were of the opinion that flowers should be in the ground and not in a vase, we are donating to this worthy cause instead.

You came into our lives when I was two years old, as you informed me in later years our first meeting was when you were in mum’s bed, I came into the room and then ran back out to tell Sam & Ruth that there was a strange man in mummy’s bed!!
You have been the best dad any of us could’ve asked for, from the days out at Drayton Manor, cooking your fantastic home-made chips for us, our friends & half the street to giving us driving lessons and so much more.
You were my confidant on many occasions, giving me relationship advice in the early days with Simon. You always made me see sense when I couldn’t see the bigger picture in problems I came to you with.

Bryony and Kenzie adore you so much too, they loved their time spent sleeping over at your house, the various days out or just the time spent with you talking about football, cheerleading, school etc

I miss you so much and it physically hurts to know that you are not here anymore, I would give anything to have one more hug and tell you that I love you dad.

There are not enough words in the world that will convey what you meant to me, Simon & our children and the sadness that has dawned on us since you went to sleep 19 days ago.
But as you said so many times “There are two certainties in life and that’s death & taxes” and “Life must go on”.
So, we will go on keeping you in a special place in our hearts forever xxx

Papa was a very good man I remember in the mornings we would go to the local newsagents and buy his crate of skoll and newspaper then after that we would go to the bakery and get crusty cobs. Papa always spoiled me when I slept over, serving me some sausage and beans. I loved it when papa came to my football matches to watch me play and it made it more enjoyable for me. On days out to wistow maze we would find all the clues and find the way out with ease. When we went to Conkers papa wouldn't let me on the zip wire as he was having too much fun sticking his middle finger up at mama while I stood surprised and I was laughing as he swore. You were a great papa to have and you will be missed but never forgotten.

An unbelievable man, a second Dad to me from the age of 18, so many times he was my human alarm clock when i had sneaked into Emmas room and overslept, Simon are you going work? he would say.
I remember when my first car a Rover 213 timing belt had snapped, we took the engine apart and repaired it for £32, valves and timing kit and a lot of time but when he started it up after putting it all back together, it was an amazing feeling to see the old girl spark back into life after all our hard work.
Sunday dinners, not sure what Dek put in his spuds but an hour after eating i was out for the count, we always laughed about that.
Going to miss you mate, my Liverpool mate, will raise a glass (won't be Skol) but i will stretch to a Newky Brown, You Will Never Walk Alone Dek! Miss you loads already!!
