In loving memory of Doreen Lillian Nicholson who sadly passed away on 18th June 2018

Doreen was born in Wandsworth in 1924 with two brothers; one older and one younger. She had a happy childhood considering the hardships and suspect that her mother went without so she and her brothers did not have to.

Doreen was evacuated to Surrey in 1939, firstly at school and later working for a paint supply firm for the MOD.

She met Charles during the war when he was working on secret radar work and they were married in 1946. They had two children, Christine (1948) and Nick (1958). Charles passed away in 1977, not long after he retired.

Doreen retired from the Gas Board in 1980 and decided to spend some time in Australia with her younger brother, Fred, but missed her family here so returned after 2 years.

She volunteerd with the League of Friends at SGH for 14 years and in 1986, met her (to be) second husband, Doug, through mutual friends. They both appreciated the companionship and married in 1987. After 24 years together, Doug passed away in 2011.

Mum suffered considerable pain in her last few years with leg wounds that would not heal and arthritis pain in shoulders and neck. When the end came, Mum was ready and was blessed with a very peaceful passing at the Countess Mountbatten Hospice on June 18 2018, aged 93.

Doreen's Funeral will be held at Romsey/Test Valley Crematorium, Ridge Lane Romsey SO51 6AB at 2.30pm on Monday July 9th 2018. Family flowers only and she requested any donations to go to Naomi House (Wessex) Childrens Hospice and/or Teenage Cancer Trust.
