On 16th August at L.G.I. Simon aged 56 years of Silsden formerly Bolton. Beloved husband of Julie, a much loved brother, uncle and great uncle.

Simon grew up in Bolton behind his father's chemist shop on Bury Road with two younger brothers. He had many friends there. After leaving school he studied Chemistry at Bradford University, where he met his future wife Julie. He then left to do a PhD at Aston University and shortly after completing that, they got married and went to live in Worthing, Goring by Sea and Hove where Simon worked at Beecham Pharmaceuticals.

Simon worked for the company, which became SmithKline Beecham then GSK, for 27 years moving to sites in Welwyn Garden City, Harlow, Stevenage and Ware. He lived in Hertford for 18 years with Julie. He was able to take a redundancy package in 2013 and they took the decision to move to Yorkshire to be closer to family and their football teams.

Over the years, Simon has been a loyal supporter of Bolton Wanderers, travelling to watch them despite the hours it took from down South. Once settled in Silsden from 2014, Simon enjoyed making new friends, drinking real ale and exploring the local countryside. He still carried out some consultancy work which enabled him to go on exotic holidays such as Mauritius and recently a tour in China. He was happy and popular with everyone that knew him. He will be missed.

Even early in the morning, Simon would bounce into work with a smile on his face, and a sparkle in his eyes... even if Bolton had lost!
Sad loss.

Simon was a good friend from early days at Beecham right through to the last days at GSK, we always had a great laugh together. I am am very saddened by his early parting, but comforted by his full life, bringing good into so many people’s lives, and knowing that he did have several years of retirement in Yorkshire where he achieved so much in his new community. No one who knew him will forget the twinkle in his eye. Rest in peace after a life well lived.
