Paul George Town was born on the 20th April 1965 in St. Alfege's Hospital, Greenwich. He was named after Paul McCartney and Grandad Town by his mother Doris and father Barry. He was a much anticipated and well-loved son, after a four year gap from his older sister Christine. He lived in Deptford until he was 5, then the family moved to Sydenham. He attended Haseltine School where he became one of the stars of the school chess team. Several of Paul's early English stories were kept and most involved stepping through a door to a new adventure, perhaps inspired by his love of Mr Benn cartoons. Patrick (PJ) joined the family soon after and Paul enjoyed having a foster brother the same age.
Paul then went to Haberdasher's Askes and he loved learning and imparting knowledge. "Did you know?" was always one of his favourite sayings. He went through several style incarnations - mostly associated with music - 2-Tone, Ska, Punk and Goth and still managed to find time for photography, astronomy and anything sci-fi and fantasy, especially Tolkein.
He attained O & A Levels and tried a couple of different courses before settling on a hospitality career and passing a catering diploma.
He always enjoyed working behind a bar (a family trait as Mum, Dad, Nan & Grandad all did the same) and over the years worked in the city, a Kent Vineyard, Austria and Germany.
In 1995 he married girlfriend Rachel, and when they parted 2 years later, Paul decided it was time for a new beginning and moved to Denmark. He learnt the language and worked for nearly 10 years in catering in Copenhagen. During this time he met Gertrud and their son Patrick was born on the 8th May 2004. Paul returned to England in 2006 and resumed his place behind the bar, working in Lee with Christine & Phil, then Sydenham and Crystal Palace.
As well as working full-time, Paul also helped to care for both his Dad, who died in 1995 and then his Mum, who died in 2014.
Paul was bereft after his Mum died, they were so close. He suffered from depression and loneliness and didn't realise how many people cared about him.
So now Paul has stepped through another door he leaves behind so many happy memories with all his family and friends.

Christine.
