In loving memory of Rita Barton who sadly passed away on 5th October 2018
Born on the 10th June 1944 in Erith to Ethel and Arthur Polden, she became the sixth child to the family and was the only girl. She had her loving brothers to look after her. As a young lady, Rita worked for Thomas Howard’s as an apprentice Seamstress, where she worked with Ivy Barton. Ivy’s son Derek would ride past her on his bicycle and wave, while she waited for her bus home. Rita married Derek on 19th October 1963 and became Rita Barton at the age of 19. She had three children, Susan, Michele and Mark who love her dearly. She met many friends within her life, at school, at work, and neighbours, who have remained friends. She led a very active life, after retiring from Lou lou’s Bridal shop she joined many clubs including Erith Vetrans bowls club where Rita and Derek met many wonderful people. She also enjoyed the table tennis club, line dancing, keep fit and aquacise. Rita and Derek had many trips away with their loving friends and family. We will all miss her laughter and smile. Rita has 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren. Thankfully we all have wonderful memories of a wonderful, brave and courageous woman.

We were in a room full to the brim, some of us were strangers to each other, yet we all had one thing in common 24th October 2018. We had the privilege and honour of having to say goodbye to a wonderful lady who had been in our lives and will always have a special place in our hearts. Rita’s family would like to say thank you to everyone who knew her, for keeping her laughing and smiling. Thank you to all who her came to her funeral, and thank you to those of you that were unable to attend, yet we’re thinking of her. Thank you for all your kind donations, flowers, cards and thoughts. Keep hold of those photos and special memories and keep telling those stories of Rita Barton. Xxx

Rita’s immediate family, would like to thank all her friends and family for their support they have given Rita whilst she was dealing with Derek’s dementia. And For their support and comfort they showed her through her terminal illness. A special thank you to David and Barbara Polden for being there for her. To Val and Don Smith for your friendship and support all the way through. To Kath Wratten for looking after Derek so Rita had time to herself, and moral support. And to Ursula and Roger Bates for being the best neighbours anyone could have for the last 50 years, for being a shoulder to cry on and a hand of support all the way through to the bitter end. Thank you all.
