Mum

So clear when everything seems
So fogged and far away;
Hands, still strong and warm,
Even when the spirit sense
Was gone. Rock knuckles
Weathered by wars, lost
Lives and times of adversity.

You were the Butterfly-Girl
Crossing continents, striding and
Strident, belonging to none.

Independence of mind when you
Led me; depending on others to be
Finally led. The eyes, the face,
The features of a race we cannot
Win. But when those hands
Hold mine, I see you, again.

My dearest Grandma,
23 years of some of the greatest memories and too many to fit into just one entry. My earliest memory in life was when you took me to Victoria Centre as we were waiting for my mum to finish work. Gone but never forgotten, there will never be one like you. Rest peacefully XX
