Most of you knew Robert James Dickens simply as Bob. His grandchildren adapted and corrupted this to become Bog or Pop and all who knew him could not but help liking this kind and generous man.
Born in East Ham on September 19th 1956, he was the second of the three children born to Fred and Joyce: John being the eldest and Patricia the youngest.
He was a keen and able participant in a range of sports at Brampton Road Primary School and his neat handwriting and keen eye for drawing showed his range of talents. He transferred to Plaistow Grammar School and left with a range of exams to his name.
In the world of work he limited himself to one of his passions in life, transport. He joined Crow Carrying as an office junior and was soon carrying out all manner of tasks for them. He then paid for himself to pass his HGV test first time and, like the father who was so proud of him, he joined a local firm carrying containers around the country.
He was soon hauling large tankers when he transferred to Shell, where he fulfilled a range of roles, even when they changed their name to Avanti, and diversified in a number of roles with them. including gas delivery and even painting storage tanks around the local area.
He married Linda and their union saw two beautiful children born, Sarah and Greg. Sarah married Chris and became a Winger and the two brought Mason into the family fold and Greg married Jo and gave Bob three more adored Grandchildren: Lilli, Daisy and George. Bob idolised all four and many family holidays were taken together. Even though he and Linda divorced, their legacy is a blessing.
Bob loved his cars and always kept each one beautifully. He was so good at this he became a private car valeter, leaving all his charges pristine. He was a fanatical car booter, whether he was selling his various bargains or buying from others. Jo became a partner-in-crime on many Sunday mornings at these events. He loved music and was a fan of a wide range of singers, including Meat Loaf, Elton John and Kate Bush. He never did own that coveted Porsche, but his generosity to others before his own needs was a key feature of his time with us. Like his father, giving to others gave him a far greater pleasure than indulging himself.
His life ended all too suddenly on Friday October 12th 2018 and we are all the sadder for this loss but so fortunate that he passed though our lives in whatever way he did.
His smile and sense of humour made us all richer people.
Good night, God Bless, Bob. You are eternally missed by us all.

We would like to pass on our deepest condolences to Greg, Joanne, LIlli, Daisy, George, Sarah, Chris and Mason on the recent passing of a dear dad and grandad.
As the days and weeks pass and you return to your lifes routine, be comforted by the love and Support of your family and friends. Bob was a fantastic dad and grandad as we all know and will be greatly missed by all.
May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories and joyful times you spent together as you celebrate a life well lived.
We pray that the many happy memories of Bob’s time with you all will, in time, overcome the sadness that you now feel.
Grief can be so hard, but the many happy memories and special memories help us cope. You are in our thought and prayers and we are here always when you need a shoulder. Love you all more than words can ever express. But you know that.

Bob, it's difficult to put into words how much you meant to us, but in life, we choose our friends, and a better friend we couldn't wish to have. Gary will miss your companionship, I'd refer to you as his 'other wife!'. I will miss your thoughtfulness and empathy. Your sense of humour, which I loved. I can still visualise you standing on my doorstep with a huge bunch of flowers after my mum and dad had gone home to Scotland, to cheer me up because you knew I'd be feeling sad.
Bless your beautiful heart Bob.
I hope there's a Porsche in heaven with your name on it. It's sure to be shiniest, most immaculate one!
We love you and miss you already Bob. We will never forget you. Love Liz and Gary xx😪
Donating £1 for every year of our dear friends life xx
