Group Captain Shaun Harvey’s intellect was instrumental in the operationalization of cyberspace for NATO, but it was his heart and soul that drove us to realize his vision. A magnificent officer, leader, colleague and friend, I am most pleased to have had the opportunity to know the man. On behalf of the men and women of the Cyberspace Operations Centre, thank you Shaun, for a tremendous contribution in far too short of a time, and heartfelt condolences to Laura, children, and family. We mourn with you.

I have known Shaun only briefly as he was serving in SHAPE Belgium. He was chairman of the “Brit Fate” Committee with was set up to advertise all things ‘British’ to the community in Belgium. On 5th October 2018, I shared a table with him at lunchtime. He was in obvious discomfort, and pain and still found it necessary to apologised for be lousy company and encouraged me in the job I was doing. Such a positive and selfless person. Gone to soon!

Of Shaun's many talents--leadership, cyberspace, military strategy, philosophy, and of course guitar--perhaps his finest was how related to people. Always smiling and seeing and encouraging the best in us, he motivated me to be more like him. I fear I'll never match him in any of those skillsets (especially guitar!), but I will never stop following his example. Through his tremendously positive influence, he will live forever through those of us fortunate enough to get close to him. Rock on, my friend.

I worked with Shaun at PJHQ in 2002 and we have kept in touch over the intervening years. I attended his service yesterday at RAF Cranwell. An incredibly emotional experience, but also a celebration of a great man. He lived life to the full with compassion and humour. A great example to us all.

Hi Laura, I’m so sorry. Been a long time since we last saw each other in Stanmore. Wish I’d known that Shaun was in Melbourne in July - he’d not have known Janet and I were there too. I’ll write up some memories for your boys. Shaun was one of my favourite people. I have nothing but fond memories, especially early on in our careers. Wish I could be there in person, but I’ll be there in spirit.
