I am writing this on behalf of mum, Pat's big sister Dorothy and myself.
My mum and Aunt Pat were very close over the years. The special bond came from them marrying 2 brothers; my dad and Uncle Les. We always used to say they were " as thick as thieves " ☺. They could criticise each other but let anybody else try saying a bad word against the other. They'd defend each other to the end.
They both had a tough upbringing but told many funny stories about their life in Sheffield.
As I grew up I remember the many visits to Nottingham and the return visits made to Sheffield. I remember the nightly phonecalls between the " sisters " putting the world to rights. Those calls often lasted over an hour.
My mum loved her sister very much. She often felt bad she couldn't visit more in the latter years. She will miss her and remember her with much love.
I will remember Aunt Pat as a strong, complicated, very funny person with a good heart and a great laugh. I'll always have you singing the little ditty about the fly to make me giggle, and the memory of you and mum dancing down the corridor when we came to see you in hospital.
I'm glad you are at peace now reunited with many.
From your loving sister Dorothy, and your niece Donna. xxx

Small was feeling grim and dark. Playing toss and fling and squash, yell and scream and bang and crash. Break and snap and bash and batter. "Good grief" said Large "What is the matter?" Small said “I’m a grim and grumpy little small and nobody loves me at all”. “Oh Small,” said Large. “Grumpy or not, I’ll always love you no matter what.”
Small said, “If I was a grizzly bear would you still love me would you still care?” “Of course,” said Large “bear or not, I’ll always love you no matter what.”
Small said “But if I turned into a bug, would you still love me and give me a hug?” “Of course,” said Large “bug or not, I’ll always love you no matter what.”
“No matter what?” said Small, and smiled, “What if I was a crocodile?” Large said “I’d hug you close and hold you tight and tuck you up in bed each night”.
“Does love wear out” said Small, “does it break or bend? Can you fix it, stick it, does it mend?” “Oh help,” said Large “I’m not that clever, I just know I’ll love you forever”.
Small said “but what about when you’re dead and gone, would you love me then, does love go on?” Large held Small snug as they looked out at the night, at the moon in the dark and the stars shining bright. “Small look at the stars – how they shine and glow, but some of those stars died a long time ago. Still they shine in the evening skies Love, like starlight, never dies”.

Nanny Pat this is from one of our favourite books and we would like to share it with you :

Small was feeling grim and dark playing toss and fling and squash, yell and scream and bang and crash.

Break and snap and bash and batter ...

“Good grief” said large. “What is the matter?”

Small said, “I am a grim and grumpy little small and nobody loves me at all” “oh small” said large. “Grumpy or not I will always love you no matter what”

Small said, “ if I was a grizzly bear, would you still love me would you care?” “ of course” said large, “bear or not, I will always love you no matter what”

Small said, “but if I turned into a bug, would you still love me and give me a hug?” “ of course” said large, “bug or not, I will always love you no matter what”

“No matter what?” Said small and smiled “what if I was a crocodile?” Large said, “I hug you close and tight, and tuck you up in bed each night”

“Does live where out?” Said small “does it break or band? Can you fix it, stick it, does in mend?” “Oh help” said large, “I’m not that clever, I just know that I will love you forever”

Small said, “but what about when we’re dead and gone, would you love me then, does love go on?”

Large held small snug as they looked out at the night, at the moon and the dark and the stars shining bright.

“Small, look at the stars how they shine and glow, but some of those stars died along time ago.”

“Still they shine in the evening skies love, light star light, never dies”.

We love you nanny pat and we miss you so much

Your great granddaughters

Olivia and Ellé-Mai xx

where do I start with one of the most hardest ladies I I’ll ever knew - from day one you were a fighter and you carried on the fighting spirit until the end. I know I wasn’t always there for you and got to see you as much as I should of, I can’t change that now but I promise to do as much as I can for the rest of the family. One of the hardest things I had to do was tell your great granddaughters Olivia and Ellé-Mai that Nanny Pat has gone to heaven - they didn’t see you as much as I promised you when I knew I was going to be a dad but I made sure they knew all about you (good and bad) haha and you need to know that they both love you and adore their aunty lynn and I will make sure lynn gets to see them as much as I can.

Anyway now it’s your time to be free and all the pain and suffering you were going through.

I love you grandma keep looking down on us all

Sweet dreams

Your grandson David xx

Each time I came to visit
beside you I'd take my place.
Deep set was your solitude,
Pain and despair upon your face.
Gently I would stroke your hand,
reassuring you I was there.
Not knowing if you understood.
The sorrow too hard to bear.
Slowly the Mum I knew
brutally was snatched away.
Dementia held you in it's clutches,
Becoming weaker day by day.
Now you have broken free,
Dementia no longer your cruel prison.
At peace at last, no longer tormented.
To the Angels you have risen.
Good night, God bless 'til we meet again.
At peace your beautiful face.
Each day I miss and think of you.
Until once more I take my place.

From your loving Son Antony XX
