In the last weeks our family lost its central pillar, a Wife, a Mother a Grandmother.
Karen Diane Slater passed away peacefully after short battle with illness.

As a wife she was a constant source of strength reassurance and true love. A Lady so kind
who made my life so full enriched and complete.

As a Mother and Grandmother she was of course Karen, loving warm and kind, forever smiling, but always prepared step in when she wished to steer and keep her lovely children on the right path and ensure they shared her values and beliefs on life.

Karen served all her working life at Kirkstead Junior School, where she was last working as Head of School. A dedicated professional, who as in all her life with others, put the children she looked after first on every occasion, and ensured that they got every opportunity through feeling safe, happy and valued to get the best out of their time at School.

Messages of condolence, from School, pupils, parents and staff have been humbling and overwhelming. As have those from our lovely friends and family. It has been a great strength to us in the last months, and we thank you with all our hearts.
Karen was a very private person so learning about how she was thought of and respected and loved has been extremely moving for all of us over these last week’s.
But we must as Karen always insisted, to don’t stop thinking about tomorrow, yesterday’s gone, yesterday’s gone.

Karen - thank you - you put your heart into Kirkstead and it was a privilege to know you. Thank you for being part of Emma and James' education and in helping them become the children they are today. And on behalf of the governors, thank you for your support, guidance and inspiration - you will be greatly missed.

It’s took me a long time to write something.. What can I say? Thank you so much for everything, if it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t be where I am today! You believed in me when times were tough, you saw me cry, laugh and spoke to me about the good times! I’m so privileged to have met such a kind woman like yourself! Sleep tight and this isn’t goodbye it’s sinply see you later! Love you so much xx
