Trevor is the late husband of Elizabeth Whatton and father of five children, Amy, Adam, Fiona, Jessica and Zara. He sadly passed away after a long illness that he fought bravely and with dignity.
He was born in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear to Terry and Pearl Whatton. He is brother to Gary, Geoff and Claire. He spent his childhood around the Newark area, enjoying his boyhood in Carlton-on-Trent playing in the grounds of Carlton Hall where his mum was the housekeeper.
He moved to Sth Normanton when he was 14 and then attended Swanwick Hall School.
He began to attend “The Mission” (now known as Junction 28 church) where he became a Christian and actively served as a Sunday school teacher and youth leader.
He then went on to Bible College in Mattersey and from there became junior minister at a church in Rotherham.
A couple of years later he moved back to South Normanton and worked at Cosmos Cranes as an illustrator followed by a few years at Shaws of Riddings as a kitchen designer. He also worked at Andrew Shane Limited as a buyer, progressing to Managing Director. After 12 years he left that field of work and began to do youth work for Derbyshire County Council in Langley Mill and subsequently in Ironville where he loved being surrounded by young people and tried to make a difference in their lives. At the same time he became the Minister of South Normanton Community Church.
He had a heart for underprivileged people and began working with his African friend in Burkina Faso (whom he met at bible college) and was instrumental in fund raising and building schools, an orphanage, clinic and maternity unit which are still flourishing to this day. He has worked with various charities locally and in Derby setting up and running youth work/community work. He also volunteered as Chair of Governors at Swanwick School and Sports College.
He loved nothing more than being surrounded by his family. He enjoyed the Derbyshire countryside and very much enjoyed being by the sea.
He was passionate about many things, especially his faith in God. He lived by his favourite verse in the Bible – “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind” and, “Love your neighbour as yourself” . He loved the Lord and put his faith in God right to the end – always thankful, always hopeful.
He has left a huge void in our lives and will be sadly missed. We are thankful for every minute that we spent with him and his memory will be in our hearts for ever.

I was at Sutton on Trent junior school with Trevor and he lived with his family next door to my Great Grandfather. So sorry to have just discovered his passing. He was a good friend and just so sad to hear of his tough fight. Condolences to all he held dear x

My deepest sympathy to Elizabeth and the children, also to Trevor`s Dad Terry. I knew them all for many years at SNCC. Trevor, as I knew him in those years was a devoted disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I would have loved to have been present at the celebration of his life, sadly my age prevented this. Thank God, we believe in the resurrection and we will meet again.Connie.

Trevor led the group of young people to Burkina Faso that I joined in 2001. A man with a big heart for seeing God at work in people's lives. Living down south we renewed the friendship with a surprise visit to SNCC in 2013. Thank you for since allowing my sister in law from Cameroon to learn alongside the clinic at Sig Noge.
Since the trip with Trevor I had been inspired to contribute to projects in Cameroon and Kenya.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family in UK and Africa.

Lord, thank you for Trev.
Trev was an exceptionally good friend and a genuine, sincere guy.
It is a real struggle to put into words (they seem so inadequate) what I want to say, but seems fitting
to share a couple of sayings that Trev often said and remain with me/have a strong effect - (1) be faithful and true, (2) out of our hearts; express through our hands.
Trev certainly lived to and fulfilled these and outworked ‘to live is Christ, to die is gain’.
A fantastic, moving and powerful God-centred celebration (on Monday 02 March) of Trev’s life and how the Lord used Trev to impact so many people.
I pray Elizabeth and all the family will know God’s peace, comfort, presence and support at this time, and be encouraged that Trev is now in paradise with the Lord he loved and served.
Thank you Lord for Trev and the privilege of knowing him, benefiting from his influence and serving with him, for God’s glory.
As Trev said - it has pleased God to take unto himself his servant Trev. May the legacy continue.

Meeting Trevor truly changed my life. We met back in 2001 when we talked about me going to Burkina Faso for the first time...it was the start of a journey that has led me to continue in the international development and humanitarian aid profession. I have now run two nternational charities, active in 18 countries and have both supported over 400,000 children and teachers.
Without meeting Trevor who knows what my story would be now, but I am lucky to have known him and through this he has made mine and hundreds of thousands of people have a better life.
