Almost my first encounter with Mick was when he paid a whopping fiver (back in the 1991) to throw a bucket of water at me at the Baring Summer Fair. It really hurt! And I can still see him giggling as he did it! I had the pleasure of spending time with Ann preparing for the fair, and the great pleasure of teaching Billy (and knowing Kate at school too). Mick always loved to tell me all about what his beloved children were doing. He was at his very best as proud father, and loved to tell me about his granddaughters too. He even kept me up to date with what Ann was doing! I loved talking football with him. I even like to think he checked how the Wolves were doing every so often. I missed being able to talk about last weekends semi final with him. Going into the Summerfield without him there has felt very weird indeed! Finally, I’m grateful for how he took to my son, Jacob, working behind the bar. He too will miss the footie chats. What an incredible turn out at his funeral today. I think that should tell you all, as a family, the measure of the man. Take care. Xx
