In loving memory of Dorothy (Dolly) Crane who at the age of 97, peacefully passed away on 10th June 2019.

Dolly was born in Gilmorton on 11th November 1921 and grew up in Gilmorton, Leicestershire. During WWII, Dolly served as a cook in the ATS and was posted to the North of England.

Dolly married Roland Crane in 1949, and they settled in Dunton Bassett, Leicestershire. They had five children: John, Graham, Liz, Robert and Geoffrey. Dolly and Roland both worked at the Manor, and later on Dolly worked in the village shop.

Dolly was the life and soul of any party, always ready to join in a sing-song, and was renowned for her monologues, especially "The Lion and Albert", and "The Recumbent Posture".

Roland and the boys all played for Dunton Bassett Cricket Club and Dolly was usually on hand to help with the Cricket Teas. Roland sadly predeceased Dolly on 27th November 1989 and Dolly got into her 90's with little problems other than a set of replacement knees in her 70's, she often remarked that the surgeon said her joints would last for 10 years and see her out. He hadn't bargained on her living for another 25 years.

A spell of shingles slowed her down in 2010, and a fall and broken hip 3 years ago limited her mobility and curtailed her dancing. Despite poor eyesight and some hearing loss, she still was able to enjoy having her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren around to see her.

After being a constant presence over so long, Dolly will be missed by family and friends.
