So sorry to hear of the passing of Ron. I remember very well his helpfulness and good humour when we were working at Questech.

(Commenting on my own message in order to leave something longer. Please edit as required.) I well remember Ron from the thirteen years I spent at Questech. He was a reassuring, friendly presence in the company. In a strange way he made us feel he was looking after us and making life safer. I often gave him lifts to one or other of the railway stations to catch trains back to Exeter. Ron wasn't that tall, and I drive 4x4s which are a long way off the ground. My usual advice, to face away from the car and fall in backwards, was perhaps a little undignified, but we still got along very well. I think I only once saw him concerned. Towards the end of the last century there was one day when he came into the main laboratory and announced the changes to corporation tax with the words,
