Editorial Code

Since its launch in 2013, Funeral Guide has existed to help the bereaved.

It has become the most visited funeral website in the country and one of the leading sources of independent advice and information for the recently bereaved.

Our advice is available 24 hours a day, always there when it is needed.

Integrity is at the heart of everything we do, whether it is the guidance we provide, the independent reviews from customers of funeral directors, or our editorial comment on the funeral profession itself.

We are pleased to have received backing from the funeral profession as that support and investment has allowed Funeral Guide to develop its services, which are mostly provided completely free to members of the public. In addition, such support and investment has allowed Funeral Guide to expand its operations to support the bereaved in a number of overseas territories.

No investor has ever sought to influence any editorial comment of Funeral Guide and each investor fully understands that integrity is part of our DNA and key to our long-term goal of helping tens of millions of bereaved people around the world.

Further, we are proud of the diversity of our investors in the funeral profession, which range from individuals, to small family businesses, to large companies. Each has invested because they believe in what we do, and each expects Funeral Guide to always act in the best interests of the bereaved.

Although our ability to serve the bereaved has been greatly enhanced by and benefited from investment by the funeral profession, we now believe it is time to state, formally and publicly, what has always been the case – namely that Funeral Guide’s editorial independence is sacrosanct.

To this end, Funeral Guide is pleased to formally announce the following editorial code:

  1. Funeral Guide’s editorial independence and integrity is at the heart of the services it provides for the bereaved and is sacrosanct. Not only is this necessary to serve the public’s best interests and to meet our own core values, but it is also in the best interests of the funeral profession and supporting services. No investor has or shall be allowed to interfere with Funeral Guide’s editorial independence, whether the editorial is in the form of comment or advice to the public.

  2. Further, Funeral Guide and its investors who are in the funeral profession each affirms that no investor (however large or small) shall be allowed to interfere with the editorial independence and integrity of Funeral Guide.

  3. Funeral Guide Limited and its websites are operated at arm’s length from each and every investor.

On 20th August 2018, Funeral Guide and each of its investors from the funeral profession agreed in writing to be bound by this editorial code.
