Guide to Funeral Directors in Glasgow

Scotland’s largest city, and the third largest city in the UK, the City of Glasgow is home to over half a million people, with a further 1.2 million people living in the Greater Glasgow area. Serving bereaved families in the area are just over 100 funeral directors in Glasgow and the surrounding locales, from over a hundred funeral homes.

The city has a religiously diverse population, with approximately 120 Christian churches of various different branches, 13 mosques, four gurdwaras, seven synagogues and a Hindu mandir. Consequently, many Glaswegian funeral directors are accustomed to and experienced in offering funeral services for various different faiths.

There are 32 cemeteries and churchyards within the city limits. Although many of the older, historic graveyards are closed to new burials, there are plenty of newer sites available, including Linn, Cardonald, Rutherglen Cemetery and the Lambhill/ St. Kentigerns Complex.

There are also eight crematoria, both privately and local authority owned, offering cremations for all religions and beliefs. Some of these crematoria, such as Linn, Daldowie and Glasgow Crematorium (Maryhill), have two service chapels to accommodate multiple services simultaneously.

Irene and Liam were exceptional in their advice, kind understanding. They made the whole "process" easier to deal with at a very difficult time. Moreover, their costs were easy to understand and extremely good value for money. Colin Yule

Very professional and sympathetic to our needs. David took all the stress of organising the funeral away from us. The staff are also a credit to their organisation. Cannot thank them all enough.

I found both Liam and his mum not only professional but kind and empathic, lovely people. I liked them both straight away and I trusted them to look after my mum. When she was in their care they were kind enough to follow my wishes of not covering her face and keeping a light on. Their embalmer made my mum look like the mum I knew and at peace. They were able to help with finding a priest free to perform a Requiem mass and organised the crematorium. They guided me and facilitated  everything. We wanted it all done within the week and they made that happen. They made the whole experience from the moment I phoned them to the end, stress free. My brother and I are truly grateful for their kindness and human approach to a sad occasion. We couldn’t have asked for a better service and would highly recommend Mitchells. Thank you. .

Outstanding, caring and compassionate service received by Mitchells Funeral Directors.  I can honestly say after having arranging funerals in the past, Mitchells far surpassed the others. From my first initial call to Irene, her guidance and advice showed genuine caring and kindness. Liam was very thoughtful and nothing was too much trouble.  They made a very difficult time all the easier and I truly appreciated this.  I would have no hesitation in recommending them, simply the best.
