A.W. Lymn is a family-run funeral director firm serving bereaved families from Awsworth, Ilkeston, West Hallam and other communities in the area.

Although this is listed as a complaint against the Ilkeston office, it is actually the Stapleford office that was the biggest problem.  My fathers body was moved to the Ilkeston office because of the poor service at Stapleford. My father had prepaid for a funeral plan and I think that the service we got was inferior, as the money is guaranteed to the funeral director. I was thinking about doing this myself but following my experience I would not now. My fathers’ body was left at the hospital for about 3 weeks. The funeral director only provided a week of care for my father and would have only covered 15 days if he had been with them longer. I have used other funeral directors in the area and they care for the deceased for an unlimited time, without extra charge. The lady dealing with me at the Stapleford office was unprofessional, rude, argumentative and incompetent. I felt that the experience was about the money and not about customer care. I reported my concerns to the head office and they moved my father to Ilkeston and then the Principal Funeral Director, from the head office took over the arrangements. Apart from the attitude at Stapleford the problems were numerous, including the obituary going in less than a week before the funeral with the photo being originally placed upside down. The day of the funeral went very well due to the Principal Funeral Director, however the final straw was when I received a letter from the finance department about the charitable donations made at the funeral. Apart from spelling mistakes and an incorrect name, my deceased father somehow managed to donate a cheque to his own funeral! I have received an apology for all the problems but they should NOT have happened at a time when someone is grieving for the loss of a parent. There has been no compensation or non monetary recognition for the pain and suffering they caused me, instead I had to pay them extra money for items that were not covered in the funeral plan. I would definitely NOT recommend A W Lymn Funeral Directors

The service received was caring and professional from the first contact until the last. The ladies in the office dealt with it all and was very efficient. On the funeral day the funeral directors were also very professional and respectful. The service was delivered by a lovely lady Tracey Matthews. We had asked for someone who was not a vicar as requested by the deceased to deliver the service and she delivered it beautifully. Thanks to all !

Such kind and thoughtful service throughout the whole process of arranging a funeral for my darling brother, who was taken from me so quickly and suddenly that I just couldn't process everything, but Nicola and Michelle were so kind and sympathetic and helped guide me through everything. Nothing was too much trouble, even when I lost internet during the organisation, they came round to my house and dropped paper copies of anything I needed to see and approve. In the most positive way, I hope I don't need their service for many years to come.

About Us

This funeral home was part of the Ilkeston Co-op Funeral Service, which opened in May 1994, and was then incorporated into the A.W. Lymn group in October 2003.

The funeral home is run by funeral arranger Michelle Ibbett and overseen by funeral director Mick Schofield. The office is open from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to 12.30 pm.

If you need assistance after hours, you can always call the telephone number at any time, seven days a week, and arrange an appointment at your convenience.

The premises offers one client parking space, a reception area, family rooms, visiting rooms and cold room facilities.

The branch gives a discount to Co-op members and also offers Ilkeston Co-op Funeral Vouchers and Ilkeston Co-op Funeral Plans.

The Ilkeston office covers all of Ilkeston and its surrounding area including Awsworth, Cossall, Eastwood, Heanor, Kimberley, Kirk Hallam, Langley Mill, Loscoe, Shipley, Smalley, Stanley, Trowell, West Hallam and beyond.

Nigel, Matthew and Jackie Lymn Rose are the directors of the A W Lymn group.

I was aware of the clash of personality in the early stages, not helped by your Father's Pre-Paid Funeral Plan being one with a national firm who do not have a presence in this area rather than a plan purchased from us. I am not going to deny some of the errors, and for these I apologise, but I am pleased that both Nikki at Ilkeston, and Julia our principal Funeral Director looked after things well for you and your family.

    From the first contact to beyond the service day, the support and advice given by the team at Ilkeston has been invaluable. Having never been through the process before the thought of everything ahead onto of losing Mum was overwhelming but Nicky, Michelle and Mick made each step bearable and went above and beyond on each query or request. Introducing us to Tracey Matthews was a blessing as she helped us remember the good times during the pain and everyone commented on how much the celebration she gave reflected Mum exactly. We still have a way to go before Mum is with her family but with Nicky and Tracey's help we know it will be the best

    From the first instance the support and direction from AW Lymn has been exceptional. Nicola has ensured that all aspects were covered and ensured a dignified approach with my Mum at all times.
    Mick and his team provided a very professional support on the day, reassuring and couldn’t ask for anything else on the day.
    Tracey our curator ensured that the day was all about our Mum, from initial contact to home visit where there was a genuine interest and warmth to get to know and during the service that heart felt warmth continued and we had the service we so wanted and Mum would have wanted about her life.
    Highly recommend and we thank you as a family.

    A W Lymn service was faultless. The worse day of our lives turned out to be a beautiful celebration of my Father’s lovely life.

    Thank you for looking after Terry/Dad so well. Nicola really looked after us made sure everything ran smoothly for us. Mark was wonderful on the day of the funeral he put us straight at ease and made us all feel safe and very cared for.

    I cannot speak highly enough of the arrangements made for my mums funeral even though the current restrictions limited the numbers who could attend it was still exactly what we wanted .
    From first to finish the help given and service was first class .
