In loving memory of Lynn Jones who sadly passed away on 1st March 2018

Lynn was born in Normanton in 1956 to George and Joan Mycroft, and grew up with her darling brother John, who she idolised. Her childhood was filled with love and affection, and the occasional bang around the head when her brother John used her as a makeshift goalpost down the Normanton rec. Many an hour was spent listening to her father ‘Big George’ playing the saxophone and later on living side by side with her amazing mum, ‘nan’ to her two children Matt and Gemma.

She attended Henry Cavendish school and later went on to be a receptionist, and it is here she met her husband Rob, with whom despite living apart over the last 15 years of her life, she maintained an incredibly strong friendship right to the very end.

She adored her children, family and close friends and lived for the time she could spend with them. She was hugely proud of both children and the adults they have become. She would regularly embark on her travels down to London to see the latest West End shows with daughter Gemma and was in her element in the bustle and vibrancy of the 'big smoke'. She was really proud of Matthew and the career he has built for himself and was so so happy that he had found his fiancé Lucy who she genuinely loved like another daughter.

The nursery where she worked become a central part of her life over the years, and led to the development of some amazing lifelong friendships. Needless to say she idolised the young people in her care and would spend hours going above and beyond to ensure every child got the very best experiences. You would have to go a long way to find another person in any profession who was loved by so many and who touched so many lives.

Lynn battled with Pancreatic cancer back in 2007 and was one of life’s true fighters. One of her fondest memories was being surrounded by her family in January 2017 to celebrate 10 years cancer free. An achievement few of us could have dreamt of all those years ago. We do not know what cruel act took Lynn from us but we must take comfort in the fact she passed away peacefully with her son Matthew by her side. Hopefully this page can serve as a medium for everyone to share their fond memories and celebrate Lynn’s life collectively.

Lynn truly was one in a million and will be in our hearts forever

Lynn was a lovely lady & a wonderful friend, she was a constant support when I had my daughter & as I got used to motherhood. Lynn would reassure me & was always there through good times & bad. Lynn also had a lovely bond with my daughter Freya & will always hold a special place in our hearts, we had many laughs & hold lots of happy memories. Today was perfect for Lynn, it was a beautiful service & lovely to see how many people's lives she had touched. I will miss you Lynn & always be greatful for our friendship. Sending love to Matt, Gemma & the rest of the family x

Well, where do I start.....

First of all, I'm just shocked that you have gone! I'm gutted I couldn't attend the funeral! :(

I worked with Lynn for 3 years and I loved working with her. What I learned about Lynn is no matter what life throws at her she just brush it off on one side and carried on with a big smile. She's very positive and I'm inspired by her. She's glamourous, lovely and independent lady who lived her life. She was very good at her job and passionate about it. Because I don't work at the nursery any more since 2015, I used to bump into her in Asda once in a while since I lived near her and we always have a long chat. Either middle of the aisle or outside Asda lol. Now I'm going to miss that!! Plus I only live 2 minutes drive from her :(

I'm going to miss her truly and I'm deeply saddened that now she's gone. It still a shock to me.

I want to send my condolences to her family and friends. I'm so so sorry that you lost Lynn. Stay strong!

Rest in peace Lynn. I will never forget you. Lots of love Annu xxxx

I worked with Lynn at Treetops for many years and saw theamazing impact she had everyday on the young children in her care. My little boy Toby was one of those lucky children, he has adored her from the second he met her, as have I.

My pal Lynn was the best. She was one of the strongest women I've ever known, with a very big heart. My mind is full of disbelief at the moment ... But I can't help but smile when I think of her X I remember how she used to hum constantly, something that I'd embarrass her with daily xx I remember laughing 'til we cried to old nursery rhymes that in our day and age, are most inappropriate and in our minds filthy! I remember being so overworked some days that all we could do was howl with laughter and get on with it. We laughed a lot, lots xx I remember reading the Tiger who came to tea and never finishing it because I would be crying with laughter up the corner, whilst Lynn unsuccessfully tried to hold it together X I remember the certain noise she made when she didn't agree with something and the look on her face that said exactly what she was thinking xx I remember her telling me all about her dad and her mom, I remember just how proud she was of Matt and Gemma and how much she loved them, completely and utterly X she told me all about their births and how she lied about going to the toilet after giving birth, so was able to go home, then spent two weeks constipated and with dreadful sweats because she couldn't go X I will try to remember all these fun filled times on Thursday, because she wouldn't want anything else. I will be wearing bright lipstick just for her. Doing a little hum, just for her and I will be carrying the Tiger who came to tea xx Thanks for the laughter Lynn and thanks for being my pal xx

I met Lynn when we both went to support nurseries across Yorkshire and Leeds together. The first night I arrived late with no bed and Lynn offered me hers as she had a family room with no fuss.
I was a 26 year old woman but Lynn was adament I must have the double bed and she would have the fold down! She was so kind, and put everyone before herself.
We spoke for hours and she told me all about Gemma and Matthew and beamed with pride.
She asked about my life with interest and since then has celebrated my successes and sad times on Facebook.
Her love for the children she worked with was incredible and the loss to this world is huge.
Sleep easy Lynn, the world was a better place with you in it xxx
